Een blik die alles zegt / One look says it all
Daar stonden ze,
de Konikpaarden,
Ik bleef staan om ze over het pad te laten gaan.
Rustig, het geklik van de hoeven op het asfaltpad,
hengsten, merries, veulens,
vaders, moeders, kinderen.
Gedisciplineerd, geen gedoe.
En dan,
die twee,
achteraan de kudde,
die blik van verstandhouding tussen beiden,
de glimlach om de mond die zegt:
het is goed, onze kudde.
Ik ben zo ontroerd,
wat kunnen we nog een boel leren als mens.

I came to a halt to let them cross the path
Calm, the sound of their hooves on the pavement
Stallions, mares, foals,
Fathers, mothers, children
Disciplined, no fuss.
Then
those two
at the back of the herd
One look of understanding between them
The smile at eachother that says:
It is fine, our herd.
I am deeply touched,
We can still learn a lot…..
